Born on May 2, 1975 in Leytonstone, England, David Robert Joseph Beckham was an avid fan of Manchester United.
He even wore the Reds’ jerseys while training at the Tottenham Hotspur club. Much of that admiration finally paid off, the world’s largest football club kept an eye on the young striker, and at the age of 16, David Beckham signed a trainee contract with Man United.
The young man made his debut in 1995, a month after his 20th birthday. But it was not until 1997 that David became the focus when publicly dating member Victoria Adams of the popular Spice Girl music band. The couple immediately attracted public attention, and after just 10 months of dating, they announced their engagement. Four months later, the couple officially married at Luttrelstown Castle, Dublin.
In November 2003, David was honorably awarded the OBE Medal by the Queen of England, which he described as the greatest honor of his life. “This medal is not just for me, but for Manchester United, the whole of England, for all my teammates and my family”, David said.
That same year, Manchester United’s most loyal fans announced he would leave his beloved club and move to Real Madrid for a four-year contract.
Another important decision was announced to the public at the time of England’s official retirement in the 2006 World Cup quarter-finals. The team’s best striker will leave the captain position – the position he has taken hold for 6 consecutive years. “Leading the national team is an honor and privilege for me, and I always look forward to being dedicated to England”, David Beckham stated.
Off the pitch, David also achieved outstanding achievements with the nickname “Brand Beckham”. His marketing campaigns have brought advertising contracts from perfume brands as well as many other brands such as Gilete, Pepsi, Armani and Motorola.
David also established his own line of men’s underwear, available at H&M fashion stores. David is often the focus of the media thanks to his elegant fashion style.
Wishing to pass on the love of football to young people, David founded the youth soccer academy in England and the United States. The star also moved to rock for Los Angeles in July 2007 in the hope of drawing American public interest in the sport of kings.
After 5 and a half years, in 2013, the David and Victoria families returned to live in the UK. David also transferred to Paris Saint-Germain about 5 months before announcing his plan to retire from football. His final match was full of emotion, David stepped into the yard, wearing shoes with the Union Jack flag – the flag of England and embroidered the names of his wife and his children.
When he was substituted 80 minutes into the game, the most famous football player officially said goodbye to the pitch with the hugs of his teammates and the cheers of the fans from the stands.
